How much does surgery cost?

Orthopaedic surgery costs in the private hospital system vary depending on a number of factors, including whether you are privately insured or self-funded (uninsured) and your choice of surgeon and hospital.

At Orthopaedics SA, our doctors see patients that are privately insured, self-funded and those covered by Workers Compensation, DVA or Third Party insurance. Our surgeons are committed to provide cost effective care.  If you are privately insured, many of our surgeons participate in gap schemes. If you are not privately insured, we can discuss available funding options.

Private Health Insurance

Out of pocket costs can develop even with Private Health Insurance. This can vary by depending on your level of insurance (Gold, Silver, Bronze), conditions placed by your insurance provider and your choice of surgeon, hospital, anaesthetist.

No one likes a surprise when it comes to medical bills, so if you need surgery, your surgeon and staff will provide you with their expected surgery fees and item numbers and you can use these to check your coverage with your health fund.  Information will also be provided on additional fees that may be payable to the anaesthetist and/or surgical assistant.  If you would like information on the surgery gaps for our surgeons, please call us on 8267 8267 or discuss with your surgeon and staff.

Our team is experienced at navigating this seemingly complicated process, so please speak to us about choices that best suit your unique situation.

Self-Funded

Some patients, who do not have health insurance, choose to pay for the costs of their surgery. This can avoid lengthy waits and allows choice in your selection of surgeon, hospital as well as pre and post-operative care.
