Dr George Dracopoulos

Dr George Dracopoulos is an orthopaedic surgeon specialising exclusively in foot and ankle problems. With a deep understanding of this complex anatomy, he supports patients to address the relationship between balance, stability, movement and propulsion with foot and ankle problems. He is recognised for his ability to offer foot surgery under local anaesthetic (ankle block), as an alternative to general anaesthesia. He is committed to using the best available techniques for his patients and now offers minimally invasive (key-hole) surgery including for the treatment of bunions.

Dr Dracopoulos consults at Memorial Medical Centre and Ashford Specialist Centre, and operates privately at Memorial and Burnside Hospitals. He also invests time in supporting the professional development of other surgeons by supervising an Australian Orthopaedic Association Fellowship to train surgeons in foot and ankle techniques.

After graduating from the University of Adelaide in 1984, he obtained Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (Orthopaedic Surgery) in 1993, and followed this with a specialist Fellowship in Foot and Ankle Surgery at Harvard University (US). He remained in the US, as a guest of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, to visit specialist centres across North America. Upon returning to
Australia, Dr Dracopoulos completed a second foot and ankle Fellowship at the Brisbane Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre. He has attended the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society Comprehensive Foot & Ankle Course (Chicago) and the Advanced Foot & Ankle Course (New York). He is a former Government appointed medical representative on the Podiatry Board of South Australia (1997-2006) and current member of both the Australian and American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Societies.
