Darren Waters is a graduate of Flinders University who subsequently trained in Adelaide in Orthopaedic Surgery.

On completion of his Orthopaedic training he undertook a hand and microvascular fellowship at the North Shore Hospital in Sydney under the guidance of Michael Tonkin, President of the Hand Surgery Society of Australia.

He subsequently undertook a Sports Medicine Fellowship concentrating on reconstructive knee, shoulder and ankle surgery under the guidance of Keith Holt in West Perth Sports Orthopaedic Centre.

With a special interest in reconstructive knee and shoulder surgery, Darren was Director of Sports Injury Service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for 10 years.

On completing his fellowship he visited centre's of excellence in the management of knee and shoulder injuries.

Previous research achievements include investigation of loosening of total knee replacements performed with Professor Howie and presented internationally.

He has investigated nerve supply of bone and this has been presented locally in South Australia.

He has developed an intra-medullary fixation device or humeral nail with Anthony Ingman that has subsequently led to the development of a now widely used humeral nail.

His current research interests include the management of frozen shoulder and instability surgery of the shoulder, knee and ankle.
